The Department of Biomedical Data Science is pleased to welcome Saeed Hassanpour, PhD to The Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth

Dr. Saeed Hassanpour, an expert in text mining and Big Data analytics, will join the faculty on September 1st as Assistant Professor of Biomedical Data Science in the Division of Biomedical Informatics.

Dr. Hassanpour received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford School of Engineering, and he was the first graduate of the PhD minor in Biomedical Informatics from Stanford School of Medicine. He has a Master of Math in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo after completing a Bachelor of Science degree from the Sharif University of Technology. Following his graduation from Stanford in 2012, Dr. Hassanpour was a Research Engineer at Microsoft, where he worked in the Bing Query Understanding Group. Since 2014, he has been a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Integrative Biomedical Imaging Informatics at Stanford.

Dr. Hassanpour’s research interests include natural language processing, knowledge extraction and representation, machine learning and Big Data analytics for biomedical and translational applications. His prior work was awarded a Best Paper Award and a Best System Demonstration Award at two international computer science conferences. His current research focuses on developing new machine learning methods for the extraction and annotation of clinical concepts in unstructured electronic health records data, such as radiology reports. His expertise will complement and advance other efforts in biomedical, clinical and computational research at Dartmouth.

The Quantitative Biology Research Institute, the SYNERGY Clinical and Translational Science Institute, and the Norris Cotton Cancer Center supported the recruitment of Dr. Hassanpour.
